As a proud Democrat, advocate, community activist, mother and a proud daughter of an immigrant family, Badrun Khan has spent her entire life fighting for justice, equality and fairness in her community.
It is sad to say that our Health Care System is failing many Americans so many of our friends and neighbors simply do not have enough money for necessary medical care or prescription drugs. This is wrong and should not be the reality in the United States a nation that has so many resources.
Badrun Khan is a believer that we can and must do better! As your Congresswoman Badrun will fight to ensure Social Security and Medicare benefits will not be reduced rather they should be enhanced from their current levels. She will fight to make sure Health Care is made available for all and that those who have existing coverage can choose to keep what they currently have.
Badrun Khan supports increasing Social Security benefits in areas that that have a significantly higher cost of Living like the 14th Congressional District, following a concept set forth in current Federal pay system.
Our Seniors and those whom will soon enter retirement deserve to know that access to affordable healthcare is within reach and that their golden years will have guarantee protections.
Our community has witnessed first hand the devastation of the drug epidemic that is sweeping across the United States. Too many Bronx and Queens community residents have felt the adverse effects of drugs and have witnessed first hand family members and loved ones who have overdosed or whose life has been destroyed because of addiction.
Badrun Khan is the type of individual who understands this frightening epidemic with all of its complexities. As your representative , Badrun will make this a priority because if a family has to bare this burden, they should not have to be be alone in this fight.
Badrun won’t turn a blind eye to this epidemic and she won’t look away! She will fight each and every day to make sure her Bronx and Queens District will obtain all the right kind of resources needed battle this scourge.
Congress continues to be dysfunctional and our government is failing to resolve the most important issues that effect the residents of the 14th Congressional District. Members of Congress continue to have record low approval ratings. They forget who sent them to Washington...not the power brokers nor the lobbyist.
Badrun Khan believes Washington needs real change! Change that can end gridlock promote openness and transparency and fully empower the duly elected officials. Congressional representatives should be mandated to have public Town Hall meetings to encourage true political empowerment for all the residents of their Congressional District. I pledge my commitment to have monthly meetings with my constituents.
Government watchdogs have often highlighted the need to change House rules in order to overcome institutional hurdles that prevent movement and real solutions.
Congressional Representatives fall in love with media and Washington DC and fail to represent the District they promised to serve.
Badrun will never lose sight of who sent her to Washington and who she is responsible to.
Our Veterans and Service Men and Woman proudly sacrifice for our Nation. Their families also make sacrifices ,to enable our citizens to live in freedom.

Badrun Nahar Khan, is a first generation immigrant and the eldest daughter of Bengali born parents who migrated to the United States in search of a better life and greater opportunity. Badrun was born in New York and raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. She is married and is a proud mother of two beautiful teen-age daughters.
As a child growing up in NYC during the 1970’s, Badrun experienced her families struggles to provide a good life for their children. Badrun’s parents were hard working individuals, they worked countless hours in their own small business and instilled the value of education and hard work to their children.
Social life was not always easy and Badrun experienced how difficult it was being the lone Bengali Muslim in her class. Badrun fully understands that her life’s experiences and the benefits of living in a culturally diverse community offered invaluable lessons that stay with her today.
Badrun is no stranger to hard work. As a teenager she studied hard and worked in her parents’ restaurant after school. On the weekends she found time to serve as a translator to the emerging Bengali community. Her passion was her service, and her service was to work in hospitals in Manhattan.
Badrun took full advantage of each and every opportunity and her hard work allowed her to be the first woman of her family to go to college and graduate with a Bachelors of Arts from Mary Mount Manhattan College.
Her education paved the way for others in her family to do so as well. Badrun has worked as a financial officer for a large school for the past seven years. Family is so important to Badrun and she often acknowledges her debt to her parents and her firm belief that her success is due to her devoted and selfless parents.
The value of hard work and dedication is instilled in Badrun and resonates as she passes on the same values to her two daughters, one of whom is about to enter college this fall.
Despite working full time, raising a family and working hard as her husband achieves his own Culinary degree, Badrun remains heavily involved in her Bengali Community throughout the city, but primarily in Queens. Badrun was recently elected the President of the Jalalabad Association, whose members number well over 14,000 people.
As President, She raised money for the needy and helped alienated Bengali wo-men in the community. She also organized cultural events and encouraged first and second generation Bengalis to learn more about their heritage. Badrun has worked towards political and social empowerment for her community. Her service has gone well beyond the Bengali community. She is an active presence in schools and service to all the residents in her Queens community. She has volunteered and served with honor as a member of Community Board 2. Badrun continues to works diligently each day to help her community and the people of Queens.
As a daughter of immigrants who has lived through so much change in the United States, Badrun has a strong vision for the future, not only for her beloved Bengali community but for all New Yorkers.
Badrun’s dream is to be a uniter, someone who hopes to build bridges so that no community, regardless of their ethnicity or religion will ever be left behind. Badrun believes that all people should get more involved in mainstream politics and become more integrated as American citizens.
Badrun is considered by many as a tireless advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Her voice will be heard not only in the halls of government but on each and every street in our district. She will clearly become the voice that will represent all New Yorkers.
